J.T. LeRoy (2018) tells the story of one of publishing's great hoaxes: six years of Savannah Knoop embodying a fictional author, based on Knoop's memoir Girl Boy Girl and starring Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, and Diane Kruger. My job was making the lie look real. I art-directed and designed the period magazine articles featured in the film, recreating the editorial design language of the era so a fabricated literary celebrity could be convincingly famous on screen.
